About W. Jason Gilmore

I've been obsessing over all things open source-related for almost ten years, with a primary focus on web development technologies. You can find my work within publications such as Developer.com, TechTarget, and Linux Magazine, and adopted for use within United Nations and Ford Foundation educational programs. I'm the author of four books, including most recently the best-selling "Beginning PHP and MySQL 5, Second Edition", published by Apress.

My days are spent providing clients around the country with unsurpassed consulting and web development services through my company W.J. Gilmore, LLC and evenings running BookPivot, LLC, a startup company currently building an array of fascinating software products. I'm a founding board member of CodeMash Inc., a non-profit organization dedicated to educating the development community. When not in front of the computer, you can find me dreaming up home remodeling projects, playing piano, and making homemade pasta.

About BeginningPHPandMySQL.com

I launched BeginningPHPandMySQL.com in for several reasons. For starters, I wanted to provide newcomers to the PHP language and MySQL database server with the most inexpensive outlet for purchasing my bestselling book, "Beginning PHP and MySQL 5, Second Edition", published by Apress in March, 2006.

This move mutually benefits both the reader and the author; you get my book for a really low price, and by taking on the retail duties typically relegated to outlets such as Amazon.com and Barnes & Noble, I earn additional revenue which allows me to keep doing what I love to do: write about cool technologies.

This site also allows me to make other book-related learning materials available to interested readers. Stay tuned as some really interesting new products and services will be available in the coming weeks!

Finally, and most importantly, I launched this website in order to establish a more direct line with my readers. Over the years I've received hundreds of emails from readers of my books, and I enjoy every single one of them. Contact me at jasonATwjgilmore.com with your thoughts!

Tip of the Week

Did you know you can quickly look up a PHP function simply by appending it's name onto the end of www.php.net? For example, to learn more about the explode() function, just navigate to www.php.net/explode.
